wreckage
Wreckage is built from the sensations and memories of Cabrera’s youth as a soldier’s daughter. The dark underbelly of the piece is the midnight marches of three sisters, propelled by the drunk and dangerous orders of an unsettled character. Motifs of aggression and survival to inform the physical vocabulary of this work. Wreckage sees the quartet of heroines become soldiers in their own battles: Contact Improvisation becomes combat; formation and unison become militaristic maneuvers; extension, release and expression become catharsis. The intimate space allowed us to fill the theater with evocative images and states of chaos juxtaposed with strict order. Wreckage highlighted athletic, technical dance that Blind Tiger is known for, while also bringing in strong elements of contact improvisation and an installation like setting and performance energy.
